The Girls Write the Future Scholarship

The Girls Write the Future is an organization proudly based in Canada and run by Canadians, and we want to make sure that we’re contributing to gender equality in education both at home and abroad.

There is a significant gap between the enrolment of Indigenous and non-Indigenous women at Canadian universities. There are many historical social, economic and political reasons for this, including barriers to funding. To do our part in contributing to reconciliation, we’ve created a scholarship for Indigenous women to pursue an undergraduate education at select universities across Canada.

This scholarship will cover up to $5000 of tuition fees per year for students beginning their studies at McGill University, the University of Winnipeg or Yukon University. We will continue to add universities to this list as the scholarship grows.

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

–       Identify as female,

–       Be Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit or Métis)

–       Intend to graduate from high school this academic year (or have already graduated but not started university),

–       Have an overall high school GPA of 3.0/4.0, 75% or equivalent,

–       Have a proven track record of community service and engagement.

Applications are open until Monday, 1 July2023 before midnight local time. We will do our best to respond to your application within 2 weeks of the deadline. We may respond to your application before the deadline, so we encourage you to submit it as early as possible.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or comments about the scholarship or the application process.

Best of luck!
